Showcasing Innovation at Iringa University

Lyra Students and Entrepreneurs Showcase at Innovation Roadshow in Iringa

On 2nd May 2025, Lyra proudly participated in the Innovation Roadshow at Iringa University, held under the theme “Innovation for a Resilient & Inclusive Future.” The full-day event brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including universities, NGOs, companies, and independent entrepreneurs, to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and the power of innovation.

Lyra was represented by a vibrant group of 23 students and 6 teachers from our partner schools, Nyang'oro and Ilambilole, as well as 4 young entrepreneurs supported through our Entrepreneurship Programme.

Showcasing Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The event aimed to:

  • Showcase student and entrepreneur-led innovation

  • Promote STEM education

  • Gain valuable exposure and feedback

  • Inspire creative thinking and problem-solving

  • Facilitate networking between innovators

Attendees enjoyed a dynamic programme of exhibitions, project pitches, and networking sessions. Lyra students presented two standout projects during the exhibition: a Smart Irrigation System and an Automatic Water Vending Machine with Coin Acceptor. District Commissioner of Iringa, Henri James visited the booth, commending the projects, and encouraging our young entrepreneurs to achieve their aspirations and dreams through their continued hard work and dedication.

Meanwhile, our youth entrepreneurs also proudly showcased their thriving small businesses, including honey production, mushroom cultivation, grain amaranth, and poultry farming.

A Platform for Recognition and Opportunity

The day proved to be an invaluable platform to build visibility and connections. One highlight came when the Smart Irrigation System caught the attention of the Agriculture Officer for Iringa District Council, who is also the Coordinator for the upcoming Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition in Mbeya. As a result, Lyra students have been invited to apply to showcase their project at the high-profile event later this year.
