The 21st of October 2025 marked a big day for 106 happy schoolgirls in Idunda, Tanzania. Lyra in Africa proudly handed over its 15th girls’ hostel, built in collaboration with the Mufindi District Council and the Idunda Ward community.
Designed by Finnish architects, this new sustainable hostel ensures girls no longer have to walk miles each day to reach school. By staying in the hostel, they gain safety, stability, and more time for their studies, enabling them to complete their education and pursue their dreams.
We were honoured to have Hon. Dr. Linda Salekwa, Mufindi District Commissioner, as our Guest of Honour. The celebration was joined by our wonderful donors, Lyra staff, board members, parents, district officials, community members, and of course, the inspiring students of Idunda.
🌱 This milestone stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration, sustainable design, and a shared vision for girls’ education in rural Tanzania.
👉 For just €290, you can support a schoolgirl for a year and help provide safe school accommodation:
